We Need:

Think of Things Our Clients Need

Several of the people we serve travel on foot.  Especially in the heat of the summer, it would be nice to travel on a bicycle.  Bikes with baskets are especially nice!

Supportive Housing

Help Through HUD, What's That?

HUD is the nation's housing agency committed to sustaining homeownership; creating affordable housing opportunities for low-income Americans; and supporting the homeless, elderly, people with disabilities and people living with AIDS. The Department also promotes economic and community development and enforces the nation's fair housing laws. More information about HUD and its programs is available on the Internet at www.hud.gov and espanol.hud.gov

Main Content Heading

Paragraph Heading (h4)

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software

Helping Through Housing

What Is Supportive Housing?

One solution to the homeless situation is Supportive Housing.  Grants under the Supportive Housing Program are awarded through a national competition each year.  The Journey Home is fortunate to be among the recipients of this grant.

Supportive Housing offers a longer term approach to housing, as well as life-skill coaching, to equip clients for independent living and re-integration into mainstream community life.

As of October 2010, The Journey Home has 10 apartments and 2 houses used for Supportive Housing.  2 units are for specifically for homeless individuals.  9 units are specifically for families with children, the fastest growing of all segments of the homeless population (now making up more than 40% of the homeless total).

Supportive Housing allows us to house families for 12 months or longer, which affords us time to build a relationship that fosters growth and opportunities to instill positive habits and routines.
